Paulina Czarnecki

I am a postdoctoral researcher with Nicolas Bellouin, Olivier Boucher, and Etienne Vignon at Sorbonne University in Paris, France. I am studying in the effects of both natural and aviation-induced clouds on Earth's energy balance with the Climaviation group.

I earned my PhD in Applied Mathematics from Columbia University, where I worked with Robert Pincus and Lorenzo Polvani on problems in atmospheric science. My thesis focused on atmospheric radiation: how we compute it for weather and climate modelling and how we understand its role in the climate system. I approach these topics with both data-driven computational methods and pencil-and-paper theory.

Before beginning my doctoral studies, I completed my bachelor of science in Honors Mathematics at the University of Michigan in 2020.
